First Breath Last Breath

Available from Amazon, Barnes and Noble and iBooks

“If you can control your breath, you can control your life.”

Ma Jaya (1940-2012) taught her students literally hundreds of breaths. This book is comprised of more than 40 of these powerful breath practices sorted into 11 main themes like ‘Opening the Heart’ and ‘Giving up Tension’.

We often hear about the benefits of yoga asanas or physical poses, but little has been written about the life-changing effects of pranayama, or breath practices. Ma Jaya’s book fills that gap with explanations and instructions for working with the breath.

There are breaths to bring you energy and breaths to calm you down; there are breaths for the morning and breaths for the night; there are breaths to open your heart or quiet your mind; there are breaths to help you fight addiction, procrastination, and burn-out. There is even a breath to help you lose weight!

More profoundly, the breath can awaken Kundalini, the feminine force of the universe rising within you. Once awakened, Mother Kundalini transforms your life, doing whatever she must to bring every part of you—body, mind, and spirit—into alignment with universal consciousness. Ma Jaya tells us, “The more you listen to your breath, the more you can hear the voice of your soul.”

Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati was a spiritual teacher, mystic, artist, and humanitarian. She taught that divinity manifests in countless ways to lead us to liberation. She founded Kashi Ashram, a community that embraces all spiritual paths. 11 Karmic SpacesMa Jaya began to teach yoga and breath practices in 1973, and later organized these teachings under the name Kali Natha Yoga, a modern practice with deep spiritual roots.

She also wrote The 11 Karmic Spaces: Choosing Freedom from the Patterns that Bind You, which won a gold medal from the Independent Publishers’ Association. Available from Amazon, B&N and iBooks.
