In 1996 Ma Jaya initiated the order of Dattatreya Saraswati Kali sanyas at Kashi. This honor is given after many years of immersion in the teachings of Ma Jaya. Ma looks at the heart of a person, and has broken with tradition by creating women sanyas as well as openly gay sanyas. The order is led by the Acharyas.
The Kashi Sanyas vow is an interfaith vow. It is a vow to respect all religions and all paths, to respect and to learn to serve the human heart and to bring joy and compassion to all who come your way. A renunciate gives up all attachments and is always in the presence of God. A renunciate is in love with God. To view a photo video of the 2008 sanyas ceremony, click here.
Kashi’s Acharyas and sanyasin live in Kashi’s Ashrams in Florida, New York, Atlanta and Los Angeles. They come from many different backgrounds and lead diverse lives in their communities. Each sanyasin is steeped in the teachings of Kashi and has a wealth of life experience which they willingly share with everyone.
