Ma Jaya teaches from a depth of wisdom and practicality which allows us to return again and again to turn over the words, and bring them into our moment. Ma is a consummate story teller, using words to paint a picture or illustrate a point that otherwise might be hard to grasp. These stories are often simple but profound, similar to the way that Swami Nityananda and Neem Karoli Baba taught.

The Birth of TantraA great king had a beautiful daughter. When she became a bright young woman, he sent her and her handmaidens to serve Lord Shiva to entice him out of his meditation so he would awaken to the world’s needs. This young woman was Parvati.
Shiva would not even glance at Parvati until she threw the ghee (clarified butter) at him, and demanded; she threw the dhood (milk), and demanded; she worshiped him with honey; and then she awakened him with the essence of her purity.
When the pureness of her being poured from her hands before she anointed her Lord, he began to flicker an eyelash. One eyebrow shot up. When he had one eye up, he saw her beauty and her desire.
She took her sari and placed it over his head so he would not be able to see her. She began her dance. He placed his eyes down so he couldn’t see her, but she teased him with her sari. He refused to open his eyes, and she became ashamed. Then she heard the voice of Sati: “Wake up! Do not be ashamed. If you wake to your own purity, then he shall also.”
That was the birth of Tantra. As the fire and the wood merged, and as the sky and the morning became one, so did Shiva and Parvati, so did guru and chela, so did Mother and child, and so did all of the world unite. The world became pure, and in that purity, you, the chela or student, shall live. With love Ma Jaya
