Ma Jaya teaches from a depth of wisdom and practicality which allows us to return again and again to turn over the words, and bring them into our moment. Ma is a consummate story teller, using words to paint a picture or illustrate a point that otherwise might be hard to grasp. These stories are often simple but profound, similar to the way that Swami Nityananda and Neem Karoli Baba taught.

MOTHER KALI VISITS THE VILLAGE

In ancient times, once a year Kali Mother Herself, in Her ferocious form, would roam the villages and the ashrams. She would bless by Her footsteps every single blade of grass, every stone, every shadow, every leaf, and every single star in the sky. She would bless the darkness and send a prayer to day when it finally came. She would sit at the feet of Lord Hanumanji, and together they went to each home and each individual person, and they took a little bit of what they did not need.

In the night while Her children were sleeping, Mother Kali said, “I will open you to the fires. I will open you to the passion within your heart. I will open you to love. I will open you to grief, to sorrow, and therefore I must open you to life, to love, to happiness and to joy.”

Hanuman turned into Lord Shiva; Shiva and Kali danced like no couple ever danced, until the whole world went around and around at their feet. Right before dawn, they both jumped into the flames. Kali ran into the trees, becoming one with all trees, with all animals, with all forces of nature, and most of all with Mother Earth, Her own Mother. You don’t know which night this will be in the year. 

And so She left one clue: “Stay open. Stay open to all moments. Stay grateful for your life, and no matter how hard it becomes, never turn your face from the Mother. No matter what heartbreak befalls you, never turn your head from the Mother, for I am the fire that burns for you. I will give you the yearning that will burn in your heart for your Mother and for your Father.” Throughout time itself, Kali became the Mother of Time, and when She exposed all your hearts to life, you remembered.
