KINDNESS I

To live a life of kindness is to be in the ultimate flow of the cycle of birth, death, rebirth, and so on. This is not a safe and comfortable life; it is a life that is filled with longings, even as you fulfill them. If you stay very still for just a few minutes a day, the longing will grow and you will become the keeper of kindness and the giver of love. There is such a beauty in losing one’s self in the longing!

The quality of kindness is fundamental to living life itself. When you can make every effort to be kind in your life, you open a door of consciousness for both you and others to walk through. To do service and spiritual work and to practice kindness is to help all of humanity. Service is a worship of kindness toward others.

The workings of the human brain want more and more of the world: the world is colorful, and the mind says one does not have to treat others with kindness once material wealth has been accumulated. If you sit by the river within you with great tenderness, you can’t help but love and be kind to all who come your way. Waging a war against the ego and winning is a simple thing to do. All you need to do is to be kind to yourself and to others in a soft, spiritual way. Simple kindness touches the center of your own giving heart and infuses others with that which will benefit those who are in need. Kindness and the awareness of being kind can change the entire chemistry of anyone on the spiritual path.

There is nothing you have to do with another’s life except to be kind and gentle. When you give up the words and thoughts that say, “I need to be loved,” then you are part of the moment of life where the heart beats with the entire universe. Each time you have compassion for another human being, you open more.
