ATTACHMENT

Are you stagnating? Are you bored? Are you alone and afraid? Are you afraid of being alone? Are you afraid of being alone with God? If your answer is “yes” to any of the above, then you have become very attached in your life. There is no pain greater than attachment. Attachment steals love away from one’s heart.

The spiritual heart can be polluted if you continually think thoughts that are harmful to yourself and others. Judgment brings attachments, such as attachments to being right and to possessing other people’s love. If you develop the quality of non-judgment, you can be way ahead of all karmic attachments.

The cause of bondage is this attachment that so many call love. Love is void of attachment, because attachment will try to possess. Detachment is the opposite; to love others fully, you do not try to possess them, nor do you care if the love is returned. The lower mind attaches itself to all things personal and of the world. Attachment keeps us away from everything. It is the same thought as we become stuck to a certain person, object, or thing. Objects and attachments only have the power you give them. When you become detached to worldly things, the contented heart consumes the mind. The higher God-mind knows that attachment is possessiveness and not love.

You cannot hold water in your hands; you cannot be attached to water. This is the way you need to be with life. Feel the cool waters of life and let attachments go. When death approaches, you need to be ready with a full heart and no attachments. You can learn to recognize attachments before old age slows you down and steals time.

Turning away from your friends and families is not a sign of detachment. Becoming indifferent to it all is indeed not detachment. True detachment is an increasing sense of well-being. If you are ruled by your ego, you will never be detached. Your ego puts all things of an attached nature in your way. Do you really want all your so-called desires filled? Meditate on detachment, and you will frustrate your ego’s expectations."
