The Power of Place

Anthropologist from Texas Tech, Lauren Miller Griffith, spent time at Kashi gathering research for her dissertation part of which has recently been published in The Journal of Dharma Studies. The Power of Place: the Transfer of Charismatic Authority to an American Ashram is a fascinating read which concludes,

“Kashi is more than a therapeutic landscape, though it is that. It is the embodiment of Ma’s charisma that supports and works in tandem with the bureaucratic institutions that have arisen to keep the Ashram operational; it is the sacred complement to the mundane, and that is a powerful thing indeed.”
